Thanks for sharing your story, Susi. I found it very interesting to read and can’t imagine the challenges you and your family lived during those times.

Such a great story, Susi - I'd never heard of 'Westpakete', but what lovely treasures they contained! I remember the fall of the wall, and the Wiedervereinigung - I was only just 15 when the wall came down, and being one of the very few kids at school who had continued with German after we had had the opportunity to drop it (!) I really, really took it on board. We'd always talked about the division of Germany into the BRD and the DDR, and how families woke up and had found themselves split across a disjointed divide. And then came the fall of the wall - it's something I'll never, ever forget watching on TV and cheering along to. I remember my German teacher weeping in lessons when we were talking about it - it was profound.

It was profound and I sometimes marvel at the life I have which wouldn’t have been possible without that wall crumbling.

What a wonderful story-thank so much for sharing that. I loved the movie too!

I was not a big Barbie fan although I spent a lot of time with friends who were, and so went along with imaginative Barbie play time. I liked her younger sister Skipper, who seemed more like me. :)

I definitely didn’t play with Barbies that long but lived vicariously through my girls. ☺️
